Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
